What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure where your dentist bonds tooth-coloured composite resin to your tooth to match the surrounding natural teeth.

Dental bonding fixes chipped or discoloured teeth. It can also be used to fix gaps or make teeth appear longer.

This procedure can typically be completed in one visit, and with proper care, dental bonds can last for several years.

Before undergoing tooth bonding treatment, you will first receive a thorough dental assessment where your dentist will look for any underlying issues that could impact the success of the treatment.

A Non-Invasive Approach to a Natural-Looking Smile

Dental bonding is typically a pain-free procedure and doesn't require any numbing agents. You may experience temporary tooth sensitivity immediately after the procedure, but over-the-counter pain relievers can be used to ease any discomfort.

The Bonding Procedure

Dental bonding typically requires only one visit to your dentist's office and can usually be completed in 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.

To prepare your teeth for bonding, your dentist will apply an etching solution to the surface of your tooth and then apply a composite resin that matches the colour of your teeth.

The composite resin is then moulded into shape and hardened in place with a high-intensity curing light.

Why dental bonding?

If you have a minor cosmetic dental issue, such as a cracked, discoloured, or gapped tooth, dental bonding may help address it.

This procedure can give your teeth a more natural appearance, especially if the tooth being filled is visible when you smile.

The composite also helps to strengthen your teeth, so you can enjoy meals without having to worry about applying too much pressure to your tooth and breaking or cracking it again.
